How Our Agency has Embraced ChatGPT, Bing Chat, Bard and New AI Tools

Welp… the world is finally coming to an end. Artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT, Google’s Bard and Bing Chat is starting to take over. Soon the Terminator movies will be referred to as nonfiction rather than fiction.

Meme from Terminator: Rise of the Machines that says Rise of the machines has begun.

Ok, let’s be real. It’s always good to have a laugh. And who knows, maybe one day AI will be so advanced that we’ll all be reporting to our robot overlords.

But for now, let’s just sit back, relax, and learn about the incredible things that AI can do.

That’s what our team at 9 Clouds decided to do. Instead of fearing it, our team embraces using new tools to get the best results for our clients.

So grab a snack, and let’s dive into how our team has embraced AI!

What Our Boss Thinks

It’s important to have support from both the ground up and the top down when a business decides to tackle new things. Our CEO, Sarah Carnes, had some insight on using AI for our digital marketing agency.

“Use of AI is no different than use of any other good process or tool. If it can replace, reduce or simplify something we’re doing manually and open up that time for higher-level thinking only a human can do, BRING IT ON.”

AI Research

It’s nice to jump into a new tool with a fresh set of eyes, but it’s also nice to do some research so you have a better idea of what you’re getting into.

Our team has jumped into researching and testing AI tools. Articles we find get shared in our #team-learning slack channel, and then discussed in our weekly team meetings. We even have a slack channel called #ai-chat to post experiments that we’ve done on ChatGPT/Bard/Bing Chat, to give each other ideas for our clients. #Teamwork!

From marketing prompts, to breaking writer’s block, to generating ideas for subject lines, we’ve found a lot of uses for ChatGPT — including but not limited to:

For one fun example, our team asked Bing Chat to write a poem about the internet in the voice of Edgar Allen Poe. The results were pretty good! Here’s a snippet:

Once upon a midnight dreary,
I pondered on the web so eerie,
A vast and endless digital sea,
A world beyond what eyes can see.
Upon my screen, a portal wide,
Where knowledge flows from every side,
A place where people come to share,
And connect with those beyond compare.

Writer’s Block

We’ve all had this feeling before: Staring at a blank page, trying to write something with nothing creative coming into your head.

The use of AI helps get the creative juices flowing. All you have to do is give it a prompt — such as blog ideas for AI — and bam! You’ll get a bunch of ideas to help you write your next blog.

You can even have it write the entire blog or just sections for you. Do you remember that hilarious intro you read at the top of this blog post? Guess who (or what) inspired it?

Yep, it was ChatGPT. I wanted to see what it would come up with. The original script it provided me was pretty choppy and manufactured, but with some edits, I’d say it turned out pretty good.

That’s the point: AI can be used to help you get started, or generate ideas, but you need a human to interpret and make the content usable and optimized for whatever your marketing goal is.

Ad Copy Creation

Ad copy can be a tricky thing to do, especially when you are having a creative block. Just like with blog creation, ChatGPT/Bard/Bing Chat can help stir the pot and come up with creative ideas for copy. It also helps you work through guidelines certain platforms might have.

TikTok Ad Copy Challenges

For example, one of our team members was working on writing ad copy for TikTok. TikTok has a maximum copy of 100 characters. For people who work in the digital marketing industry, you know how challenging it is to do this.

That’s where ChatGPT came into the picture. Our team member asked it for ideas for ad copy with less than 100 characters, and the platform provided multiple options.

Facebook Ad Copy Alternatives

Another example where AI has helped us: one of our clients is a therapist who specializes in sex therapy. Meta (Facebook) immediately flags and rejects ads with any mention of the word sex or innuendos of that word, and we usually have to go through multiple reviews of ads to get them running, which eats up a lot of time for our strategists.

So, as a team, we wanted to see how useful AI can be. We gave the prompt to ChatGPT to write advertising copy for Facebook and provided the rule of not using specific “taboo” words. It wasn’t a problem at all for this platform to come up with good examples to use in Meta Advertising.

These alternatives helped save us time and get our ads up running faster while still communicating what we wanted them to for our clients.
