Video Marketing with Your Phone

Video Marketing with Your Phone

Video marketing has emerged in the last decade as a dynamic and highly effective tool for businesses to engage with their target audience online.

However, some businesses — especially smaller businesses — shy away from any form of video marketing.  They might think of the big video equipment setups you traditionally think of for making videos, and say, “That’s too expensive!”

What if I were to tell you that your business doesn’t need all that fancy equipment?

All you need is a smartphone.

Benefits of Video Marketing

Before we get into the nitty gritty of making marketing videos with your smartphone, let’s talk about why video marketing is important for your business.

The Stats

Online audiences are consuming a lot of video content. There are currently 244.4 million online video viewers in the U.S. alone. According to a recent study, the average person watches 17 hours of online video per week! That’s roughly watching 8+ movies a week based on the average movie run time.

And these viewers aren’t just watching the videos online. They are also showing great engagement. The average retention rate for these viewers is above 50%. Also, videos are twice as likely to be shared than any other form of content.

Video-focused social media platforms such as Snapchat and TikTok have shown great returns on ad spend for our clients.

Tips and Tricks for Shooting Video on Your Smartphone

We understand that most people are nervous to be in front of a camera, so here are some tips to make your videos turn out great.

1. Be Prepared

You wouldn’t go into a meeting for your business unprepared right? Write or type out a script and run through it a couple of times before filming. You don’t have to say everything word for word, but use it as a guide so you know you have something to say.

It is also important to make sure you have an area prepared for recording videos. You don’t have to build a whole set. All you need to do is have clean, well-maintained area with good lighting and as little noise pollution as possible.

2. Be Concise

No one is expecting a 10+ minute lecture from these videos. In fact, recent studies have shown that shorter videos have higher retention rates with viewers and perform better for your SEO.

We recommend aiming for around 60 seconds for your videos.

3. Use Free Editing Tools

There’s no better price than free right?

A lot of software editing tools like Adobe Premiere cost a decent chunk of change. You won’t need that for these videos!

There are great video editing tools such as Veed, Canva and Movavi that are free AND easy to use. Plus, most of these platforms have different recording templates for different social media platforms. That way, your videos will have no problem transferring between other social media platforms.

4. Be Yourself

There is no reason to act like a robot once you start recording videos. Just be yourself! Adding a little bit of personality to your videos creates a better connection with your audience.
