My First Week at 9 Clouds: Courtesy of Coffee and Queso

Coffee brings people together.

I’d like to think that’s how I ended up at 9 Clouds.

Meeting Over Coffee

I’ve had quite the variety of work experiences since I took my first job at 16 years old.

Some jobs were just fun, like working at a summer camp or being a barista. Some weren’t so fun, but they helped pay the bills through college. And others — like being an intern reporter for SD Public Broadcasting or running a videography business for several years — gave me some really great real-world experience.

But one job stands out, and that’s because it opened my eyes to the kind of job I really wanted to have.

That job was at Queen City Bakery, where I slung coffee part-time during college. I met a lot of people in the community, including one group of coworkers who came in every Friday morning to get out of their office for some amazing quiche and endless cups of coffee.

And that is how I met 9 Clouds.

I soon began to take notice of the agency. The world of Internet marketing interested me, and the idea of working at a company that valued its employees and knew how to have fun was really appealing.

Fast forward about three years, and here I am!

Bonding Over Queso

. . . That’s really all there is to say about my first day at 9 Clouds. There was a lot of queso.

The team ordered tacos for lunch, and we all practically drank that sticky orange-gold stuff while Bob Ross painted for us via YouTube. It was probably only 20 minutes before I felt like part of the gang.

In fact, I felt comfortable here so quickly that it took just two days before I stood up, gave a small lecture, and took on a role that I’ve awarded myself at every other previous job: the garbage can police.

That’s right — there will be no more overflowing trash cans in the 9 Clouds office!

Taking On the Challenge

There’s a lot of joking and playing around here, and that’s been great.

But there’s also been a lot of learning. I’ve learned more in the past week than I could have imagined, and there’s so much more to come. The team here at 9 Clouds loves to grow and teach. They pride themselves on their core values.

In regards to both client work and training a new employee, 9 Clouds has its processes down. I thrive on organization, calendars, and to-do lists, and so does this company. Because of this, I felt confident in learning my new role from day one.

My new coworkers don’t waste time in getting to work — and making sure that I feel ready to do the same. They answer all my questions, offer resources and shortcuts, and regularly compliment my shoes. (Thanks, John!)

I am ecstatic to be in an environment that holds personal development and learning to such a high standard. It’s a little intimidating, but I’m grateful for the challenge.

9 Clouds is a great company that is passionate about doing inbound marketing well. I’m proud to be part of this team and can’t wait to dive deeper into doing client work (and eating more queso).
