Where automotive meets digital marketing.
Back in the day, it was enough to have excellent salespeople and a great selection of vehicles.
If someone was interested in purchasing a vehicle, they'd stop by your dealership for a casual look around your vehicle selection. They likely heard one or a few of your ads on the radio or television, and they decided to pay you a visit — even if they weren't completely sold on a certain make or model.
If the experience was a pleasant one, you were both set.
However, the days of in-person visits are fewer and farther between. Why, you ask? The convenience of the Internet, of course.
Make an Impact Online
Prospective car buyers spend the majority of their time online, scouring the web for the perfect vehicle. They compare prices, features, and special luxuries for hours upon hours, and they end up test driving less than a handful of cars before purchasing.
In fact, a 2014 survey of 2,000 automotive consumers found that, before purchasing a vehicle, 16% took no test-drive and 33% test-drove only one car. The same study found that more than two-thirds (68%) reported visiting two dealerships or fewer before buying.
What does this all mean? Your web presence has to be stellar and up-to-date. You want to show up when Sally decides that she needs a new decked-out minivan to haul around her growing family or when Joe decides that it's time to trade in his F-150 for a newer, more polished version.
But just having and maintaining a website full of inventory is only the beginning. You have to know how to use popular keywords to bring customers into your dealership.
